Visit the EMERGENCY ROOM or Call 911 when…

  • Heavy bleeding of any kind
  • Large open wounds
  • Chest pain that started today
  • Major burns
  • Major rashes
  • Major infections (diabetic foot ulcer, severe skin infection, Pneumonia)
  • Major broken bones (ie, leg, hip)
  • Spinal injuries or severe head injuries
  • Breathing difficulty or oxygen saturation <90
  • Stroke symptoms
  • Heart Attack symptoms
  • Suicidal or Homicidal thoughts
  • Drug overdose (accidental or intentional)
  • Snake bites OR exposure to rabid animal
  • Allergic reactions to bees, ants, peanuts, etc.
  • Fall from greater than 3ft or 5 stairs especially if on a blood thinner
  • Severe low blood sugar (<70 despite 3 attempts to increase)
  • Symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) – Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, confusion, blood sugars >400
  • Severe drug allergies – severe rash, lip or tongue swelling, diarrhea/vomiting, fainting
  • Loss of consciousness (passing out)
  • Severe or debilitating pain
  • Pregnancy related pain or bleeding
